The Passage

Lifted anchor at 8:13, good wind and outgoing tide to start.

10:00am wind died

11:00am Put up spinnaker for the first time, engines off. Downwind sailing, only 3.5 kts

2:30pm Lightening and thunder close, brought spinnaker down as a precaution, head sail out.

3:00pm 2nd reef in main, preparing for storm.

6:45pm Dolphins swim with our boat.

8:10pm Dolphins fly from across the ocean to swim with us!

10:00pm Austin only one up on watch

2:30am Patti at the helm, Austin asleep

5:30am Patti sees shooting star from Perseid meteor shower

12:00pm turned into the Charleston channel, tide was going out pretty hard, so it was slow going in.

1:15pm anchored at Safe Harbor, Charleston, SC

Things of Note

We did much better at watching the weather and getting ready before we actually get to it. We never fully put up our sail, we kept it at the second reef.

8/12/2026 Finally got off the boat and went to BP for a Coke Zero

8/13/2026 Went on a Self Guided OBX filming sites tour + Charleston, SC must sees, including Ben Silver, Pineapple statue, Slave Mart, Circle Church & Cemetery, Giallard Center, T-Bonz for lunch

8/14/2026 Heather, Clara & I took the scooters into town to run some errands – Target, Beech restaurant, etc.

8/15/2026 Teens went to town to play pickle ball. They stopped at Grace Abounds to meet Kyle & Bennett and ask if they wanted to join. Kevin, Heather, Austin & I went to Publix. The dock was boarded off, so we had to climb around the boards. We chose not to bring the wagon and had to carry our groceries. JJs birthday, we went to the park to celebrate with pizza. Teens all came back to our boat to continue OBX marathon.
